Cloudbreak Energy Partners is one of the fastest-growing renewable energy companies in Colorado and a leading commercial and community solar developer in the Mountain West. Cloudbreak Energy is seeking a Controller to own and manage all accounting functions as the company scales its development and operating portfolio. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this role will oversee the integrity of the company’s financial records, manage external accountants and the financial statement audit, and ensure the timely production of accurate U.S. GAAP financial statements.

This high-impact role will build and refine the accounting function from the ground up while remaining hands-on. The ideal candidate has renewable energy accounting experience across development and operating assets, including assets financed with debt and tax equity, and can support a fast-moving, capital-intensive business.

The position offers a competitive salary of $150,000–$200,000, performance-based bonuses, flexible paid time off and sick leave, a 401(k) with up to a 4% match, health, vision, and dental insurance, and generous parental leave. Occasional travel may be required for team offsites and company events.

• CPA required.
• 10+ years of accounting experience, with meaningful experience in renewable energy accounting across development and operating assets. Experience in other capital-intensive, project-based industries or financial services will also be considered.
• Direct experience accounting for assets financed with debt and tax equity is required.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience managing external audits and coordinating the production of audited and unaudited U.S. GAAP financial statements.
• Experience building or scaling an accounting function at a growth-stage company preferred.
• Hands-on leadership style with the ability to set accounting policy and prepare reconciliations.
• Exceptional organizational skills, ownership, follow-through, and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain accounting concepts to non-accountants.
• Growth mindset and enthusiasm for building something.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a combination of public accounting and industry experience is a plus.
• Boulder-based or willingness to relocate strongly preferred.

• Own and manage all accounting functions, including the general ledger, month-end and year-end close, accounts payable and receivable, payroll accounting, and accurate U.S. GAAP books and records.
• Manage the external audit process end to end, serving as the primary auditor contact and preparing audit-ready schedules and support.
• Coordinate with external accountants to produce audited and unaudited U.S. GAAP financial statements accurately and on schedule.
• Manage timelines for financial statement delivery and support contractual and financing commitments.
• Apply renewable energy accounting expertise and U.S. GAAP to development and operating assets.
• Lead research, interpretation, application, and documentation of complex accounting matters, including debt and tax equity financing, revenue recognition, capitalization of development costs, asset impairment, and project-level and entity-level reporting.
• Design, implement, and improve internal controls, accounting policies, workflows, and systems.
• Deliver timely internal financial reporting to the VP of Finance and leadership team to support decision-making, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Collaborate with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, lenders, tax equity investors, and internal business units.
• Oversee tax compliance activities, review tax filings and related work, and ensure tax matters are properly reflected in the financial statements.
• Monitor regulatory requirements, financing covenants, and reporting obligations.
• Support cash management, treasury operations, and reconciliation of project- and corporate-level accounts.
• Build and mentor the accounting team as the company grows.
